Solution Technology

The central element of the Reklaim technology is pyrolysis, a thermal process by which hydrocarbon materials are broken down into smaller constituent materials in an oxygen-free environment, or in an environment in which the oxygen content is too low for combustion or gasification to occur. During tire pyrolysis, chemical bonds within the rubber compounds are broken down, creating an end-of-the-line mixture of organic compounds and gases-carbon black, tire-derived oil ("TDO"), and non-condensable gases.

There's no burning or combustion associated with our closed loop process, so greenhouse gas pollution isn't a problem at plants using our technology. Several primary challenges have hindered the technical and commercial viability of tire pyrolysis systems in the past. The pyrolysis process and its resulting products are highly dependent on a number of interdependent variables, including the type, size, and shape of the feed material (shredded tires); process conditions, including pyrolysis rate, processor type, and thermal and gas flow gradients within the processor; the manner in which gas and carbon co-mix and exit the processor; and methods to recover and separate end products.

Reklaim has given its team of outstanding team of scientists and engineers the latitude to refine the technology through sustained, systematic trial and error-a process that has resulted in a significant break-through success.

There's no burning or combustion associated with our closed loop process, so greenhouse gas pollution isn't a problem at plants using our technology. And our continuous flow process allows us to save energy and run more efficiently. Our processing facility and R&D Center in Boardman, Oregon is fully permitted and became operational in 2008. We began processing on a continuous basis in mid-2011.
